Magnetic Plotter

Kentaro Yasu (2017)
A design method of magnetic rubber sheet-based haptic interactions.

Magnetic Plotter is a home-use magnetic field editing system. The desktop digital plotting machine combined with a tiny neodymium magnet produces fine magnetic fields on the surface of magnetic rubber sheets. When the magnetized rubber sheets are rubbed against one another, unique haptic stimuli are haptic stimuli can be changed by the magnetic fields of the rubber sheets. Thus, this method enables users to design haptic fields with commercially available materials.
