Biography:

Dr. Kentaro Yasu (1985-) is a creative researcher in Japan. Ph.D. (Media Design). He develops interactive interfaces, creative tools, rapid prototyping techniques, and personal fabrication methods, using everyday materials and familiar tools.

He received Bachelor of Engineering (2008), Master of Media Design (2010), and Ph.D. (2013) from Keio University, Japan. When he was a doctoral course student, since he was especially interested in kinetic design using familiar materials, he proposed the concept of "paper-based motion media" in his doctoral thesis, via projects named "POPAPY", "Move-it", and "Animated Paper".

From 2013, he moved to Singapore and started working as a researcher at NUS (National University of Singapore) CUTE Center (Connectivity Ubiquitous Technologies for Technologies). He presented his works named "MOR4R" and "Bump Ahead" at that time.

From April 2016, he moved back to Japan and continue research activities at NTT (Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation) Communication Laboratories. His work named “Magnetic Plotter” and "Magnetact" was presented at ACM CHI.

His research project appeared at ACM CHI and SIGGRAPH Studio, and his installation appeared at Ars Electronica.
